How Long Will It Take?
Abortion pill (Mifeprex or RU 486 / Misoprostol):
- At least 2 visits within 2-3 weeks
- Take mifeprex by mouth on day # 1 (given in our office).
- Insert 4 misoprostol tablets in the vagina 48 hours later (insertion is done at home, medications are given in our office during your initial visit)
- The miscarriage process starts within 24 hours after inserting the vaginal pills.
- The bleeding can last up to 2 weeks
- It can be heavy for 4-6 days and then decreases.
- A Follow-up visit is necessary 2-3 weeks later or sooner should vaginal bleeding not start.
Surgical abortion:
- One hour and a half visit to the office.
- The abortion procedure takes 5 to l0 minutes.
- Minimal bleeding can occur over the following week.
- Follow-up visit at our office in 2-3 weeks is recommended..
